Day 17 of Healthy, Beautiful Skin – SkinPen® Microneedling of North Atlanta Dermatology
By Best Self Staffer: Susan Lesesne
SkinPen® Microneedling offers a simple and safe way for all skin types to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, scars from acne, surgery, or trauma, stretch marks and large pores. The SkinPen stimulates collagen and elastin production by using tiny needles to puncture the skin.
Overall, the procedure was very comfortable. Based on my specific needs to have my face look smoother, fresher and be a little bit tighter, my cosmetic practitioner, Melissa DiMaggio, applied a topical numbing agent about 20 minutes before the treatment began to ensure my comfort. During the treatment, which lasted about 30 minutes, I felt a mild sensation, which was just the vibration of the SkinPen®.
After the procedure, my skin appeared slightly pink for the next 48 hours, similar to a mild sunburn. For the next couple of days, I used the Skinfuse RESCUE Calming Complex to soothe my skin. I was told I could resume wearing makeup and sunscreen 24-hours post procedure, which was great since I had an event the next night.
The number of treatments needed depends on your skin and desired outcome. Typically, most aging-related concerns can be addressed in three to four treatments spaced 30 days apart. For acne scarring, it may take six to eight treatments. The SkinPen® is designed and safe for use on almost all parts of the body including the face, neck, chest and hands.
Once you have completed a series of treatments and achieved the desired outcome, you may elect to have a touch-up treatment done in six months to a year to maintain results.
