Over the past decade, Cheryl Denise Shiver has defied age stereotypes, prioritizing physical and mental well-being through dancing, regular exercise routines and adventurous travels. Passionate about fitness and community wellness, she ventured into bodybuilding at 63, proving it’s never too late to chase new dreams. What things have you done to ensure that you continue to age well?
Over the past ten years, I’ve made conscious efforts to prioritize my physical and mental well-being, ensuring that I continue to age well and enjoy life to the fullest. I’ve immersed myself in activities that bring me joy and keep me active, such as dancing, regular exercise routine and frequent travel to explore new cultures and experiences. Hosting parties has allowed me to cultivate meaningful connections with friends and loved ones, contributing to my overall happiness and social well-being.

What is the last new thing you tried? Were you intimidated or scared?
At 63 I thought I’d be more likely to pull a muscle than pull off a weightlifting routine. But lo and behold, I decided to dive into bodybuilding, and now I’ve got more first-place medals than I know what to do with! From hesitant newbie to bikini competition champ, it’s been one heck of a ride. And hey, I’ve even got the muscles to prove it! Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?

How do you stay young at heart?
My perspective on what it takes to stay young at heart is maintaining a youthful mindset, staying physically active, having an outgoing personality and surrounding myself with positive influences like my son, Keldren, contributes to feeling youthful and vibrant. Spending quality time with loved ones, especially family can be particularly rejuvenating. I believe if you keep embracing life with enthusiasm and positivity, you’ll likely continue to feel young at heart for years to come!

What inspires you to get up every morning?
Ever heard the saying, ‘Don’t let age change you, change the way you age?’ Well, for me, it’s not just a saying, it’s my morning mantra! Every morning, I wake up to the enthusiastic faces of my two giant Schnauzers, who remind me that age is just a number, and life is all about wagging your tail with joy!
