Roi Shlomo And His Success With Yogli Mogli Frozen Yogurt

Freedom and the excitement of creating something new are at the foundation of why Roi Shlomo was inspired to become an entrepreneur. Shlomo, the brains behind the frozen yogurt chain Yogli Mogli, started selling things in third grade because he wanted spending money. “I find freedom in being my own boss,” he says, “It’s always been natural for me.”

With such a challenging job market, many people are looking at the prospect of owning their own business for the first time. What would you tell them?
Probably the smartest decision is to choose something you’re passionate about.  What would you be doing if you chose not to work?  That’s exactly the field you should go into and embrace change!  Change can be scary but fighting change makes it much worse. Venture out of your comfort zone and welcome it with open arms.  It can be very rewarding!

Since you sell franchises to aspiring entrepreneurs, what are some of the common qualities you see in people who become successful as business owners?
Deep pockets and outstanding credit may not be enough to run a successful business. A franchisee’s success depends a lot on ambition and assertiveness; they need to have a ready smile and the desire to get involved with the customers and the community.

Why do business owners fail?
I think a big part of this is poor management and research. New business owners have to be extra careful and determined to hire the right employees, be an active part of operations, carefully choose vendors, be receptive to helpful advice and be willing to ask for help or change if need be.  These things take time. Be patient and willing to make mistakes and learn from them.

What qualities do you have that have helped make you successful?
I am always seeking new and challenging opportunities.  Business is always on my mind and I want to be very successful.  I am open-minded and willing to take risks. I have a passion to make things happen, if I think it, I am going to do it!  I love to make things become a reality.

What advice do you have for other business owners?
Always be creative!  When it comes to business, don’t allow yourself to get too comfortable or sedentary. Creative business thinking will always keep you ahead of your competition.

How do you give back and support local charities?
I was raised by my family to give back. Even when I was young, my parents and I would volunteer and donate food and time in Israel.  It was and continues to be a source of joy. All Yogli Mogli franchisees are very active in the community and donate significantly to several nonprofits.

I am very passionate about children’s charities. I am heavily involved with Make a Wish, Rally Foundation and CHOA. I also contribute heavily to Komen and local breast cancer charities. So many women are affected by breast cancer.

Where do you see yourself five years from now? 10? 20?
I see myself owning several businesses. I want to diversify my business knowledge and expand in other parts of the world. Global economics are very intriguing to me and I am confident I would do well.  I also see myself starting a nonprofit. I’m not sure what the focus will be but I want it to help children.

What is the best piece of advice you received?
“The quality of your life is determined by the quality of your thoughts.”

What inspires you?
I am inspired by people who start from scratch and succeed in spite of overwhelming obstacles.

What’s the most daring thing you’ve done?
I came to the U.S. with $80 in my pocket.

Last book you read?
“The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari” by Robin Sharma.

Who have been your biggest influences?
My parents. Both hard working and dedicated, they taught me to go after what I wanted and find my own success.

If you weren’t in this line of work, what would you be doing?
I would be a photographer. I studied extensively in high school and try to find time to spend at least two to three hours a week with my camera, shooting various areas around Atlanta.
