Javier Ruiz, The Soulful Artist
For Javier Ruiz, hair is more than a career; it’s a way to empower others and celebrate individuality. A devoted father of two and lifelong Atlanta resident, Javier blends creativity, mentorship and community service into every aspect of his life. From shaping hair to shaping young minds, his work reflects dedication, artistry and a commitment to leaving the world—and his two sons—stronger and more inspired.
How do you balance work, parenting and personal growth?
My two boys, Sebastian and Nathaniel, are my fuel. They inspire me every day to continue with this journey called life. Being a dad brings so much light into my life. I don’t see my kids as a challenge; I see them as a blessing. Sometimes when I am running out of energy, I just remember their faces and everything goes back to normal. I do everything for them so they grow healthy and strong. Parenthood is a lifestyle and never something you can separate from.
What do you love most about being over 40?
I’ve always found that experiences really make up your life. I love my 40s because when I look in the mirror, I see a real man who has made mistakes and learned from them in order to become a better version of myself. I’m now able to share my experiences, my stories and my struggles with my kids.
How do you like to give back to your community?
Working with Lost-N-Found Youth has been very powerful for me. We work with LGBTQ+ kids and teenagers who have been wrongfully discriminated against for their sexual orientation. We source jobs for them, get them looking their best for interviews and organize fundraising galas with Steve Hightower Salon to raise money for their futures.
