Kimberly Parkman, The Colorful Community Champion

A lifelong advocate, creator and survivor, Kimberly Parkman embodies purpose and passion in equal measure. A Sandy Springs resident, Kimberly has spent decades championing education and community empowerment, most recently leading the effort to launch Spalding Academy for Innovation and Learning (SAIL), the area’s first charter school. Now, as owner of Belle & Ten, Kimberly channels her creativity into handcrafted jewelry that uplifts others, proving that resilience, style and service can beautifully coexist in one extraordinary person.

What lessons have you learned in creating Sandy Springs’ first charter school?

The day after the potential closure was announced, we formed a parent committee filled with brilliant minds to advocate for our school. Through our efforts, I’ve learned to be more open-minded when it comes to traditional education and the children of this generation. As parents and teachers, we need to get creative with educating our kids and meet them where they are, which is different from how our generation learned and treated schooling.

What daily practices or mindsets help you maintain that positive outlook?

I always wear something that makes me feel pretty. I love a good maxi dress or a fabulous silk shirt, so even if I’m just running errands or working in my home office on a rainy day, I will dress up. Not only do I feel great when I’m in fun, colorful clothes, but I’ve also found that it makes other people smile as well!

What do you love most about being over 40?

I love that I’m comfortable staying home now. In my 20s and 30s, I had to have a full dance card or I’d be despondent that I didn’t have plans. Now, if someone cancels at the last minute, I’m in my pjs faster than I can hang up the call!
