ATLBucketlist’s Alyssa Fagien Has a Golden Sidekick You’ve Got to Meet

If you live in Atlanta, chances are you’ve seen a post from @ATL_BucketList pop up in your feed—whether it’s a rave review of a buzzy new restaurant or a guide to under-the-radar events. But behind the scenes of this beloved account run by Alyssa Fagien is a loyal, four-legged supporter who keeps things grounded: Nellie. A sweet, goofy, golden retriever who’s just as much a part of Alyssa Fagien’s story as the city itself, Nellie has changed Fagien’s and, by extension, Atlanta’s life forever. Now, Alyssa is teaming up with LifeLine Animal Project to give back to Atlanta’s animal community, and it all starts with the special bond she shares with Nellie.
What’s unique about Nellie?
Like most golden retrievers, Nellie is sweet, goofy and incredibly loyal. She might get a little too excited when greeting people, but she’s the gentlest girl. I’m convinced she thinks she’s human—at the dog park, she prefers hanging with people over other pups. She’s also a sucker for belly rubs. And if you have an apple or some cheese and don’t share with her? She’ll act like you’ve ruined her entire day—maybe even her life.
Where’s her favorite place in Atlanta?
Definitely the Atlanta BeltLine—she loves a good walk, especially when there’s a pup cup from Finca to Filter involved. We also love Fetch Park and Skiptown. Anywhere with fresh air, friendly faces and a chance to be the center of attention is a win in her book.
How has Nellie changed your life?
Being Nellie’s mom has brought so much joy and meaning into my life. She’s been by my side for six years through career milestones, moves and relationships. She’s my sidekick, my constant source of comfort, and truly the best part of my day, every day. Having a dog has taught me to slow down and appreciate the little things—like a sunny walk or quiet cuddle on the couch. Life feels fuller with her in it.
How did you connect with LifeLine?
I discovered LifeLine through a friend who adopted from them and was blown away by their work. What makes them special is how easy they make it to help—fostering, volunteering or even their Dog for the Day program. I recently took a pup out for the day, and it was a win-win: the dog got a much-needed break from the shelter, and I got some fresh air and puppy love. My hope is to continue raising awareness for the amazing work LifeLine is doing, because it really is a community effort—and they make it easy to be part of the solution.
