SaKari Sanders: Curating Community and Creativity at Koncept House

SaKari Sanders isn’t just a curator, she’s a community builder, a creative mentor and an advocate for underrepresented artists. As the Chief Curator of Koncept House, a majority-woman and minority-owned coworking space in Atlanta, Sanders uses her platform to showcase diverse voices while fostering meaningful connections between artists, entrepreneurs and the broader community.

Why is showcasing diverse artists in a minority-owned coworking space important?

It’s all about representation, empowerment and economic growth for women and minority entrepreneurs. As Chief Curator, I ensure that the rotating exhibitions reflect the voices, stories and creativity of underrepresented artists, fostering an environment where both businesses and artists thrive. At Koncept House, artists develop the skills, confidence and resilience needed to navigate the art world while maintaining the integrity of their work.

What creative project has had a significant impact?

Our weekly luxury candle and perfume-making classes are a favorite. They go beyond crafting a product—they awaken self-love, meaningful connections and creativity. It’s therapeutic for people to slow down, be present and engage their senses. Many attendees share that it’s their first time making something for themselves, which fosters a deep sense of accomplishment and self-appreciation.

How does sustainability factor into ByLeCreme’s products?

At ByLeCreme, we blend luxury with sustainability. Our candle vessels are designed as permanent décor pieces that can be repurposed as planters, jewelry holders and more. We also offer discounted refills on all of our soy candles and perfumes.

How do you foster community in your workshops?

We let participants know it’s an interactive experience, encouraging them to connect with the person next to them. They discuss trendy products and help each other name their fragrances, fostering a supportive environment where everyone feels inspired.

What advice would you give to someone starting out?

Never give up. There will be challenges, but perseverance is key. Always research your industry to stay informed and ahead of the curve.Delegate tasks you can’t do yourself. You can’t wear every hat, and building a team is essential for growth.
