Missy Mostrom: Empowering Women with Community
40 Under 40 Inspiring Innovators Top 10 Winner
Missy Mostrom found herself in need of a support system when she began her fitness journey in her mid-20s. Having fallen in love with kickboxing, Mostrom couldn’t help but feel like an outsider as a woman in typically male-dominated fighter gyms. Her dream was a community of like-minded women ready to take a jab at their goals. When she couldn’t find it, she created VESTA Fitboxing with the help of her best friend and business partner, Alixx Hetzel.
Q: Why is it important for you to cultivate a strong community for women?
Missy Mostrom: I spent most of my life not feeling good enough, which significantly impacted my confidence to pursue things that I wanted to do or try. It’s now my mission to make sure VESTA supports people who come to us so they feel like they are a part of something. When you feel seen and supported, it gives you the confidence to do great things!
Q: How do you give back to the community?
Missy Mostrom: Having my own business means I can give back as much as possible with the help of VESTA members who are just as passionate about helping others as I am. This year, we’ve raised funds for the Center for Black Women’s Wellness, Sisters With a Voice and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, just to name a few.
Q: What do you hope to see in VESTA’s future?
Missy Mostrom: Expansion! I have seen so many lives changed by the work that we’re doing; I think it would be a shame to stop here. We see multiple studios in our future.
