Q: Can blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) be performed safely in the office?

A: We always discuss anesthetic options and procedure locations depending on which procedures we are going to perform.

As a general rule, the more invasive the procedure the more anesthetic is required. So in simple terms, yes, usually an upper blepharoplasty can be safely performed in the office setting. If we are adding a brow lift and/or lower eyelid procedures, then we generally recommend IV sedation or formal anesthesia.
